WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE US CLEAN AND SEAL YOUR TILE AND GROUT

With our specialised industrial equipment and cleaning products and years of industry experience, we clean and seal tile & grout to the highest standards. We specialise in numerous surfaces such as stone, granite, porcelain, limestone, and terracotta among others.

We only use cleaning products that are non-toxic, safe for children, pets, and the environment and every member of our team is trained in cleaning techniques for efficient and spotless results.

WHY YOU NEED TO SEAL ALL POROUS TILE & GROUT

  • All porous tiles, such as slate and marble, need to be sealed to provide protection from dirt and impurities as the porosity of the tile & grout will readily absorb dirt, grease and grime leading to discolouration and permanent staining.
  • Sealing your tile & grout helps prevent and reduce staining by creating a barrier that provides protection against chemical attack, deterioration and contamination.
  • Brisbane Tile & Carpet Cleaners offer a Sealing service where we apply a a premium penetrating, natural colour, water based and non-slip sealer to protect your tiles.
  • Your tile & grout will no longer stain as the grout becomes non-porous – and we guarantee our product for up to 5 years!
  • Sealing also makes your tiles easier to clean as the sealant layer makes your tile and grout less porous. As such, the tiles will be better at repelling oil-based contaminants and preventing stains.

It is important to keep in mind that previously applied sealer will need to be removed before new sealer can be applied. This process is called tile stripping and cleaning, which involves stripping, scrubbing and cleaning to remove old sealant and its residue and restoring the original appearance of the tiles. The new sealant can then be applied to the freshly cleaned tiles.

Additionally, not all tiles need to be sealed. If your tile is glazed, ceramic or porcelain it probably won’t need to be sealed because the glaze is there as the protection. If you’re unsure if your tile needs to be sealed, feel free to give us a ring and we’d be happy to assist.

OUR PROCESS

  • Investigate what sort of tile you have and if any sealer has been applied previously (if yes, this will first need to be removed via a process known as stripping)
  • Pre-treat tile and grout with an alkaline-based solution to loosen grime, oils and residue in your tiles
  • If required the surface is power scrubbed with a rotary scrubber to agitate grout lines and reach buried dirt and grime
  • Using high pressure heated water we extract, capture and rinse grime and waste in the tile & grout using our specialised equipment
  • The floor is then quickly dried using air movers
  • We apply two coats of our premium penetrating, natural colour, water based and non-slip sealer to protect your floors. Typically we allow for an hour between coats.
After sealing, your tiles will typically be touch dry within 6 hours. Penetrating sealers will take 24 hours to cure, and as such care should be taken to not expose your newly sealed tile & grout to any water for this period of time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Q: Should I move my furniture?
  • A: This is one of the top questions customers have when booking a tile and grout cleaning job with Brisbane Tile & Carpet Cleaners. Customers want to understand what kinds of furniture the cleaning technician will be able to move and what they can do to prepare their home before the technician arrives.
All our technicians work alone. As such, we limit them to lift a maximum of 20 kg for their health and safety. Larger items will only be moved if they are on wheels or can be easily slid.  The following items will NOT be moved:
    • Electrical equipment such as TVs or computers
    • Furniture that is flush to the ground
    • Bookcases
    • Dining tables that require more than one person to move
  • Q: What types of tiles need to be sealed?
  • A: If your tile is stone (slate, marble, granite, travertine, etc.) then it will need to be sealed. Stone is naturally porous and will absorb spills and stain easily.
  • Q: How long does the sealer last?
  • A: Penetrating sealers typically have a lifetime up to 10 years, although our premium sealers can reach 15 year lifetimes.
  • Q: When is the best time to seal my tiles?
  • A: The absolute best time is immediately after installation. However, tiles can be cleaned and sealed at any time.
  • Q: How long does it take for sealer to dry?
  • A: After sealing, your tiles will typically be touch dry within 6 hours. Penetrating sealers will take 24 hours to cure, and as such care should be taken to not expose your newly sealed tile & grout to any water for this period of time.
  • Q: How do I know if my surface needs to be re-sealed?
  • A: You will know that your surface needs to be stripped, cleaned and re-sealed once they begin to appear dull even after a regular clean. If you notice your surfaces are staining, are showing patchy areas or that your grout is absorbing spills easily, then that is a strong indication that your existing sealer is beginning to wear off and your floors need to be re-sealed immediately to prevent long term staining. If you have any concerns, give us a shout and we’d be happy to help with any enquiries.
