FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Q: Should I move my furniture?
A: This is one of the top questions customers have when booking a tile and grout cleaning job with Brisbane Tile & Carpet Cleaners. Customers want to understand what kinds of furniture the cleaning technician will be able to move and what they can do to prepare their home before the technician arrives.

All our technicians work alone. As such, we limit them to lift a maximum of 5 kg for their health and safety. Larger items will only be moved if they are on wheels or can be easily slid.

The following items will NOT be moved:

          • Electrical equipment such as TVs or computers
          • Furniture that is flush to the ground
          • Bookcases
          • Dining tables that require more than one person to move

2. Q: Can Brisbane Tile & Carpet Cleaners protect my tiles?
A: Yes! Porous tiles, such as slate and marble, need to be sealed to provide protection from dirt and impurities. Brisbane Tile & Carpet Cleaners offer a Sealing service where we apply a a premium penetrating, natural colour, water based and non-slip sealer to protect your tiles. Sealing also makes your tiles easier to clean as the sealant layer makes your tile and grout less porous. As such, the tiles will be better at repelling oil-based contaminants and preventing stains.

3. Q: How often should tile and grout be cleaned?
A: The length of time between a professional clean typically depends on the amount of traffic and the type of regular maintenance done. Generally speaking, tile and grout cleaning should be done every 3 to 4 years. Note that if your tile & grout has been sealed then it won’t need to be professionally cleaned as often.

4. Q: What types of tiles need to be sealed?
A: If your tile is stone (slate, marble, granite, travertine, etc.) then it will need to be sealed. Stone is naturally porous and will absorb spills and stain easily.

5. Q: How long does the sealer last?
A: Penetrating sealers typically have a lifetime up to 10 years, although our premium sealers can reach 15 year lifetimes.

6. Q: When is the best time to seal my tiles?
A: The absolute best time is immediately after installation. However, tiles can be cleaned and sealed at any time.

7. Q: How long does it take for sealer to dry?
A: After sealing, your tiles will typically be touch dry within 6 hours. Penetrating sealers will take 24 hours to cure, and as such care should be taken to not expose your newly sealed tile & grout to any water for this period of time.

8. Q: How do I know if my surface needs to be re-sealed?
A: You will know that your surface needs to be stripped, cleaned and re-sealed once they begin to appear dull even after a regular clean. If you notice your surfaces are staining, are showing patchy areas or that your grout is absorbing spills easily, then that is a strong indication that your existing sealer is beginning to wear off and your floors need to be re-sealed immediately to prevent long term staining. If you have any concerns, give us a shout and we’d be happy to help with any enquiries.
